Round cables have a multi-core circular structure and are usually available by the metre. The individual cores are located around the centre and are bundled in a cable sheath. Depending on the application, the cable core consists of stranded wires, dummy elements, shielding, taping or strain relief. The outer cable sheath is usually made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP) or fluoroethylene propylene (FEP) and protects the inner workings of the cable.

Round cables are particularly popular as components in industry, as they are highly resistant to solvents, oil, lubricants and acids. In a cable, several individual conductors are combined in one structure to transmit energy and different signals. The structure simplifies installation in a system because there is no forced mechanical direction of orientation.
